Jay Rico – Dappah
Brighton based rapper Jay Rico, has once again taken strides in showing that he is well on his way to becoming the next big thing. Building on his previous hit releases ‘Make It’ and ‘Drippy’, ‘Dappah’s’ statistics are flying, with the tune being close to surpassing 150,000 streams, in just over a month on Spotify.
Rico’s ‘Dappah’ adds to the catalogue of impressive English tracks proudly flying the flag of the UK’s urban music scene. You can instantly tell of the tracks origins, with a slickly produced introduction leading elegantly into the catchy chorus. When asked about the meaning of the song, Jay kept it simple ‘It’s about drip, money and girls’. Through the undertones of ‘Dappah’, it manages to class as a high energy, feel good song. His lyrical flow, rhythm and beat selection shows another side to Jay, one not previously shown in his already diverse catalogue.
As well as writing straight-up, hard hitting rap anthems, he has been making his mark on the live scene with a stella performance at Global 12 Festival in London and has supported Nafe Smallz and Jay1 in recent months. He has also been booked for both Brighton and Bristol dates with House of Pharaohs on the 8th and 9th October.
With more music to drop in the coming months the imminent future looks to be bright for the 21 year old.
