Weird Milk – Time Machine
Weird Milk have had what could be described as a breakthrough year. From being one of the first acts announced for prestigious festivals the Great Escape Festival and Live at Leeds, multiple BBC Radio 1 plays and a tour with Trudy and The Romance, it’s certainly been a year to remember for the London lads. They’ve decided to add the cherry on top with the release of their new single, ‘Time Machine’.
My first thought when listening to it is ‘AM’. ‘Time Machine’ has very Arctic Monkeys feel to it, with the track sounding like it could be one of the main singles off that album. Usually, saying something like this would insinuate I’m not into the song. However, I mean this as a very genuine compliment, ‘AM’’ is one of my favourite albums of all time and Alex Turner is one of the greatest songwriters to ever live. In other words – ‘Time Machine’ shows Weird Milk’s songwriting prowess.
The song has a steady swagger throughout the verses, with authorial vocals clearly depicting the bands intention and need to build a time machine. The choruses are uplifting and have an almost Twin Peaks feel to them, with jangly keys throwing back the tone to the 1960’s. The production style on the chorus gives the song a 60’s feel, which I found to be really reminiscent of the Beatles!
Overall this is a great track that makes me extremely excited for Weird Milk’s future!
